NEW YORK: Salmon River – White, Blue & Pink Egg Sacks are the Top Baits

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Steelhead fishing is remains amazing. The fish gods continue to shine on area anglers. The salmon river is loaded with a mix of fresh and dark fish and they are spread out from top to bottom. Water flows are about perfect for boats and bankies and although it looks like winter has finally arrived it still is not that bad.

White, blue & pink egg sacks are the top baits followed by 10mm beads in glow roe and white lightning and the plug bite has been good as well. The slightly stained water is keeping the fish active and the fish ones just keep coming in.

The Oswego River is loaded with browns and the fishing behind the hotels has been really good. White jigs tipped with a minnow will do the damage there.I

Ice fisherman have been disappointed thus far but I believe that will change soon. Please be careful on that early thin ice. It is just a fish and there is no reason to take the chance.

NEW YORK: Top producing baits – White & Green E-chip, Spin drs with Green Glow, White Atomik Flies

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

We have seen more kings in the last week than we have all season. From 130 to 450, from Fairhaven north to Sandy Pond, big adult Chinooks along with their younger counterparts have moved in as their summer staging season begins.

Remember; while they tend to favor the cold water they are more than wiling to move into the 60 degree water… if that is where the bait is.

Top producing baits for us are white & green e-chip & spin drs with green glow and white Atomik flies early. If you have bright conditions switch to a chrome green spinny and a hammer fly, or a chrome green e-chip and a green #23 or B-Fly.

Keep a few spoons high for the browns, lakers and steelhead. I like the dreamweaver Hit Man and the NK die-hard.

Smallmouth Bass continue to provide great action from Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake. White and yellow spinnerbaits as well as shallow diving crankbaits are working well. In deeper waters, try small jigs tipped with yellow or white Mister Twister grubs. Slowly bounce the jigs off rocky bottoms and work the shoals and drop-offs. Crabs and worms are always a good bet.

The fishing on Sandy pond has been good. Anglers are finding largemouth bass and northern pike using live minnows and worms. Look also for an occasional walleye to be mixed in. I also hear the top-water action has been hot!

On Oneida Lake fishing with jigs has slowed down and now the walleye are showing a preference for trolled baits over the deepest part of the lake 45 to 55 feet. Look for bass in about 6 ft. of water using crayfish and worms and panfish are doing well along the shoreline.

Fishing is really good right now and we are having a wonderful season,

Stay safe and enjoy the summer season.

MISSISSIPPI: We got 80 White,15 Speckled Trout and 3 Redfish!

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

The Mega Bite was on today with a total of 98 fish. We got 80 White,15 Speckled Trout and 3 Redfish!

All the way from Texas to fish in Biloxi were Jamie, Hank, Blake and Cutter. The stars of the day were the young boys Blake age 14 and Cutter age 7. Blake put this 32” Bull Redfish in the boat without any help. Cutter got more than his share of big Speckled Trout and White Trout. This 7 year old fished like a pro he was awesome! After Blake saw his Brother catching so many fish it was time for me to make an adjustment to Blake’s line. Blake was now hauling them in like a pro!

Jamie and Hank got their share of some nice fish.
