AUSTRALIA: Salmon Being Caught in Good Numbers Along the South Coast

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Well what a mixed bag we have for you this week, nothing on the bigger fish to report but if you were lucky enough to be out on the water on Saturday, what a day condsidering what the weather was like on the Sunday afternoon and late evening.

We have had some good rainfall over the last few days which will hopefully arouse some fish out there, I know for all those that are on tank water you will be breathing a sigh of relief. Hopefully the water temperatures will be where we want them to be to get some decent fish caught.

Salmon are still being caught in good numbers along the South Coast towards Albany, have also had reports of catching afew from Binningup Beach but they were quite away out. As you all know, the Salmon haven’t been running like they normally are with the water temps too high closer to shore.

Busselton Jetty has had some action over the last week with more than one customer experiencing good results on Crabs. One customer quite happy to report catching his bag limit within the first hour of getting there, another happy to report catching his limit using lights behind the hospital. Not only have Crabs being getting caught from the Jetty but one customer going out a little deeper hooked onto some nice Flounder, King George Whiting and a couple of good sized Squid.

Mullaway have been reported being caught at Forrest Beach and down at the Capel River Mouth, with Taylor also being caught at Forrest Beach.

Herring, and Whiting are still doing OK with reports of good numbers around the beaches and in particular Herring getting caught along the beach near the Lighthouse in the early morning. High tide fishing doing well at the Hungry Hollow.

It’s been a long time since i cooked Flounder, so i went online to find a couple of recipes. Check out www.allrecipes.com in particular the Baked Seafood Au Gratin sounds great not to mention the Crab Stuffed Flounder.

MONTANA: Fly Fishing

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Nearly all rivers in Southwest Montana are either currently fishable or within a few days.

The salmon flies are here and are now on the Upper Madison between Ruby and Ennis. I have also heard that they are in the Gallatin Canyon and we should see them on the Yellowstone soon. The Lower and Upper Madison have been fishing very well with nymphs, girdle bugs, sculpins and zonkers as a big fly trailed by lightning bugs or soft hackles have been productive.

Fish are still near banks but are beginning to venture out. On the Lower Mad they are already in the fast water with the warmer temps. The Ruby is now fishing great and the Yellowstone and Boulder are just days away from fishable levels. We expect some amazing attractor dry fly fishing to be just around the bend. A few are already picking up some fish on dries on the Upper Madison.

WISCONSIN: Milwaukee – Fishing Salmon

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Charter Fishing Milwaukee the fish have moved deeper in the water column.

Look for fish from 30 to 80 down on all presentations. Slide Divers with 160 feet of line out are a steady producer with magnum Reaper Peacock or Fish n Chip spoons. Downriggers from 60 to 80 down on long lead spoons are my go to rig with magnum silver spoons. Customers are enjoying great action on Chinook salmon to 18 pounds.

The best action is four to six miles off shore in 90 to 135 feet of water north of Milwaukee. You will find Coho, Chinook, Rainbow and Lake Trout steady and predictable. A combination of Salmon and Trout in all sizes are active.

For Coho you can’t go wrong with spoons in most sizes in green and yellow with glow paint. The Reaper Magnum Peacock spoon in regular or magnum is the answer for Sunny days. White or disco 8 inch flashers with green flies are also an important part of the presentation. The boat speed of 2.0 gave the best results.

Have a great fishing season. Let’s go fishing!!

NEW YORK: Lake Ontario – Salmon River

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

The Oswego Harbor is producing some nice catches of brown trout as well as a few nice atlantic salmon. I know of several weighing in between 10 and 12 pounds. What a nice bonus to find when you are really only looking for 3 to 5 pound trout.

The lakeshore is fishing well as boaters are finding brown trout trolling along the shore in 10 to 20 ft. of water, primarily at the mouths of the tributaries. Stickbaits and small spoons in black and silver are working the best. Troll slow and concentrate your efforts in and around the warmest water.

The Bull head fishing is just getting underway and conditions will really improve over the next few weeks as the water warms and fish move in. Top spots include North and South Sandy Pond, The Salmon River Estuary, The Grindstone Marsh and the Little Salmon River.

The salmon river flow is very low, but dropback steelhead are being caught from top to bottom.
Worms, beads and egg sacs are working best. Fish the fastest deepest runs you can find. Don’t waste your time in the slow pools. The fishing this week has been good!

Some recent pics. Sorry for the lack of updates. I have 12 more days on the river if I can get them in and I get a much needed break and will update more often.
