TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts – Most Fish are Post Spawn Now

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Lake Ray Roberts is about 1 foot below normal level and water temperature is 71 to 73 degrees on the main lake. .

The water color is lightly stained. Fishing this week is very good. Most fish are post spawn now and good place to look for them is points at the mouths of major creeks. We are catching some under birds and shallow on points with “The Floatin Thing” that I make. Fishing main lake humps and points and ridges in 28 to 38 feet deep with, Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome color with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse original fly tied 14inches above the spoon for doubles, is where we are doing the best.

Have fun fishing.

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts – White Bass Fishing

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Lake Ray Roberts is a foot and a half lower than normal level with water temperature at 55 to 58 on the main lake.

Sand Bass fishing is very good and we are getting limits of good keepers most trips. Strong winds that keep us from moving around the lake can keep us from getting on a good bite but lately on windy days we have done well. Best depth this week is 28 to 34 feet. We are fishing humps, points, roads and ridges mainly on the east arm of the lake from Isle du Bois State Park to Wolf Island. We are catching all our fish on Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome color with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse fly tied 14 inches above the spoon.

Birds have been working some days to help find active feeding fish and when the birds are not working and just sitting in a group on the surface it is likely the sand bass are near the area. If you want a Spring fishing trip get with me soon as my calendar, this time of year, fills up fast especially on weekends. My next available weekend day is April 16th but I have lots of weekday availability most weeks this Spring.

Have fun fishing,

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts White Bass Fishing

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Our lake is about a foot lower than normal level with water temperature on the main lake at 45 degrees.

The cold spell we had this week dropped the water temperature 4 degrees on the main lake and this sent the sand bass a little deeper on the structure the fish use in the Winter. Fishing was good friday and saturday after the weather got above freezing. Most of the bites came from 40 to 45 feet deep in the same areas we have been fishing this Winter. With water temperature 45 degrees it takes more looking to find a good bite but the fish are always biting somewhere and if you are persistent you can fill an ice chest full of fish.

Lure presentation is critical in water this cold to catch a lot of fish. Best presentation I have found is hop the lure a couple times and then hold it still very close to the lake bottom. Most bites will come as you are holding the lure still. Cotton Cordell CC Spoon 3/4 oz. in chrome color with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse fly tied 14 inches above it is what we catch all the deep sand bass on. I am always ready to go on short notice this time of year. Give me a call if you want to get an ice chest full of fish.

Have fun fishing,

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts White Bass Fishing

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

White bass fishing is very good on Lake Ray Roberts in the winter and these fish are on a strong winter pattern. We are catching limits every trip and the fish are the biggest of the year in Winter. The best way to catch a bunch of fish is to find them on your electronics near the bottom and vertical jig for them. We are fishing both arms of the main lake looking on points, humps, roads and ridges for active feeding fish. A Cotton Cordell CC Spoon chome color with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon is the best bait I have found to catch sand bass on Ray Roberts. In the cold water situation that we have now, with water temps in the low 50’s, good knowledge of what your electronics are telling you is a must.

Most of the time now the fish are laying on the bottom of the lake and you need to use at least a 4X zoom to see them.

Another key to catching fish in cold water is your lure presentation. A slow hop of the spoon and sometimes holding it still just off of the bottom is what will get the most bites. We are catching a lot of magnum size sand bass and it is a great time to learn how and where to catch Lake Ray Roberts white bass and take home a fish fry.

Merry Christmas,

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts White Bass Fishing

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Lake Ray Roberts is 1/2 a foot below normal level and water temperature is 69 to 73 degrees.

Sand bass fishing is excellent and we are catching lots of fish every trip and getting limits of keepers every trip. We are fishing on both arms of the lake on humps, points, roads and ridges. Finding fish that are on the feed has really been pretty easy the last couple weeks and in the cooler water the fish are not moving as much so we are able to sit on top of biting fish longer now.

This week birds started working the lake after the cold front and can make finding some feeding fish easy some days. Most trips we are catching a few catfish while sand bass fishing even though we are not targeting these, the catfish will bite the same lures we use for sand bass. We are catching all our fish on a Cotton Cordell CC Spoon 3/4 oz. chrome color with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse fly tied 14 inches above the spoon for doubles. Best depth is 25 to 35 feet deep lately. Email or call me if you want to get on my calendar to take advantage of the excellent fall fishing we have on Lake Ray Roberts.

Have fun fishing,

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts – White Bass Fishing

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Lake Ray Roberts is about at normal level and water temperature is 79 to 83.

The water color is pretty good now and has cleared a lot from the big rains. Fishing this week is excellent and we are catching a lot of fish every trip. We are catching fish on Jiggin Spoons in 25 to 40 feet deep. Chrome color Cotton Cordell CC Spoon 3/4 oz. with a chartreuse Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above it is what we catch the deep fish on. The fall fishing on Ray Roberts is very predictable and now until Christmas will be very good as the water cools down.

Have fun fishing,
Tim

TEXAS: Lake Ray Roberts – White Bass Fishing

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Lake Ray Roberts is 6 inches below normal level and water temperature is 84 to 88. The water color is clear in most areas.

Fishing this week is very good with fish on strong summer pattern of schooling every morning. It takes some boat riding around the lake to find feeding fish but we have been able to catch a bunch every morning this week. We are catching a lot of little ones but are able to get some nice keepers for the ice chest also. Best bite has been from 6:00 am to 9:00 am. but with some looking you can atay on fish for most of the morning hours.

Fish are feeding on this years shad hatch and the bait is tiny so a rooster tail or clear tiny torpedoe should work. We catch all our schooling fish on the “Floatin Thing” that I make. Its a great time to get young people on the lake to catch some surface feeding sand bass.

Have fun fishing.
