GEORGIA: December – Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook ready

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Linesides: Good, not great, but should get better when the weather stabilizes.

The flatline and planer-board bite is starting to pick up but is over with by 9:30 am. “Then it’s downrods and four-arm U-rigs. We caught more fish this week on our U-rigs then live bait, and that’s the best bite right now.

I am targeting the flats from Victoria all the way up to Clear Creek.

I’m not even looking in the Allatoona arm right now. There’s a ton of fish moving up on flats and points to feed on small threadfin right now. Catch them on jigging spoons or Rooster Tails if you can get them deep enough. Fish 10 to 12 feet deep.

The flats off Gaults have been good, as well as the island at Harbor Town and Bartow-Carver. Seagulls are starting to show up.

I expect in December the fishing will be full blown. Key on birds and topwater. Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook ready. Pull flatlines and planer boards, and later in the mornings pull a lighter three-arm U-rig.”

GEORGIA: Trout Biting Well on the Top of the Tides & Reds at the Low

Monday, November 14th, 2011

As expected, the fall fishing has been outstanding!

Cold mornings with midday temps in the 70’s have really fired off the big three: Flounder, Trout and Redfish.

The fish have not been picky, with shrimp and plastics fishing equally well. We have even had some great days with the fly rod using Deceivers and Clousers. The slight drop in water temperature has killed off many micro-organisms, leaving the water clean and green!

With trout biting well on the top of the tides, reds at the low and flounder on all stages in between, limits have been the norm.

The Georgia Coast offers arguably the best fall fishing in the south. Our amazing State Park system and many state of the art ramps and lifts, help make access to these pristine marshes readily available. Come and fish our coast, and be sure to bring your camera, as these marshes are pristine and undeveloped due to some excellent management over the last century.

The only over population problem we have are the fish!

GEORGIA: Allatoona – Best Bite has Been on Jigging Spoons

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Great.

The bite this week is the same as last week’s but seems to be better for size and numbers.

The lake is in the process of turning over and all the action is on the north end of the lake right now.

We have been catching most of our fish on the bottom ” 8- to 20 “-feet deep on the flats from Little River to Fields Landing, the fish will gradually start moving back downlake. The fish are relating to the bottom.

The best bite has been on jigging spoons dropped to the bottom and then twitched up about 6 inches.

The bite will come as the spoon falls. I like a 3/4- or 1-oz. Flex-It in chrome with either white or chartreuse. Spoons are catching a mixed bag of hybrids, stripers and white bass, and we are even catching a few big catfish in the same area. It’s not uncommon to boat 30 or 40 fish. The fish will also hit live bait, and the gizzards and threadfins are easy to catch in Little River.

You just have to get there before sun-up. Linesides are hitting shad both on downlined and freelines. With the down rods being the better biteā€¦.

GEORGIA: Fishing Starting to Pick Up on Oconee

Monday, October 31st, 2011

I know it sounds like I think I am The Rock from WWF, but it is very exciting to see the fishing start to pick up on Oconee. Since it is such a shallow lake, the water heats up and stays warm for a long time. It takes many cool, even cold days, for the lake to get right again.

It all starts off with crappie fishing, and right now the fishing is getting really good on the lake. Night fishing guys are catching a lot of good fish, and the day trollers arent doing bad either. Every day we get closer to that magic time when the rods will be bending under the boat with 2 1/2 pound fish.

This is going to be a great year on Oconee

GEORGIA: (Lake Hartwell) November – Try Flukes & Bucktails Early and Late

Monday, October 24th, 2011

The top water action has been slowing for the last week. It was real good from mid-September to mid October. It started in the lower lake and moved up the lake as the water cooled. The lake is starting to turn over and fishing normally gets tough until late November.

The backs of creeks will complete turn-over first and the fish will migrate to the creeks this month. If the water has a dark brown or black color; look for water with a greener color. Fish will move away from turning water. Sometimes the color will change as you ride down the lake. Look in the green water near the dark water. This migration holds true for bass and stripers. The Kentucky spotted bass population is exploding with schools of everywhere.

By the end of November, turnover will be complete. The sea gulls will lead to active fish that will eat free lined and down lined herring. For those that prefer artificial, try flukes and bucktails early and late. Try a jigging spoon under the bright sun. Work the spoon up and down off the bottom in the creek channels; usually at 30 to 50 feet deep.

GEORGIA: Caught Stripers Up to 20 pounds on Bone Super Spooks

Monday, October 17th, 2011

The top water striper bite on Lanier has been this good the past few days.

We have caught many stripers up to 20 pounds on Bone Super Spooks and on that new color of Redfin called “Chicken Scratch”. The blowups on the Redfin the last few days have been amazing. We are seeing some good schools on top most days and we are also doing well on the Redfin, while blind beating as many points and humps as we can.

The lake was slick this morning in most places. It was nice to see that week old strong east wind finally leave us. Freelined bluebacks fished around the schools of busting fish are also working for those folks that don’t like to cast.

GEORGIA: Fish Big, White Rooster Tails, Jr. Flukes & Anything on a Popping Cork.

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Good. There is good schooling activity going on all over the lake in the mornings and afternoons and all day on cloudy days.

Look for hybrids and small stripers busting the top in the Fields Landing and Delta area, at the island in front of Kellogg Creek and Harbortown, between Bartow Carver and Illinois Creek, and the biggest school is between Bethany Bridge and Stamp Creek. Fish big, white Rooster Tails, Jr. Flukes and anything on a popping cork. These lures must be fish on 6- to 8-lb. test or you won’t get bit. If they’re not coming up, pull U-rigs they’ll out-fish live bait 5 to 1. I like a Mack Farr four-arm umbrella rig with nine 1/2-oz. white bucktails. Chartreuse or white trailers seem to be working equally well. If you don’t like trolling, try dropping a white-with-chrome Flex-It spoon on top of fish you see on the graph.

Special Carters Lake Report.

The live Bait bite on Carters is DEAD unless your luck enough to get your hand on some Alewife. The Alewife are becoming the bait of choose for Carters lake whenit comes to stripers. We ( The Anglers ) seen this coming last year, last winter we saw a big drop off on the thread-fin Gizzard shad and even more on the trout bite. This year I have use all four baits Trout, Thread-fin, Gizzard Shad and Alewife. The only bait I am having any luck on is the Alewife. The fish have just change their diets and Alewife is the key to catching stripers on Carters if you have alive bait mine set….

The over all best bite on Carters for me the last two years has been on Umbrella Rigs. I have caught at least 80 % of my stripers on Carters Lake the last two years on rigs….So make sure to carry your trolling gear with you if you heading to Carters Lake it may make the differnets between a good day and a bad day.

GEORGIA: Lake Allatoona – Live Bait is Really Starting to Work Well

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Line side fishing is the same this week as last weeks . The fish are on the move, but will eat when you find them. Live bait is really starting to work well on these fish right now. But I still think the spoon bite is the best bite going right now. The southend of the lake is still the place to be. Any where from clear Creek to the Allatoona Creek arm. Troll these area’s with your Mack Farr u-rigs. As soon as you find one of these MEGA schools drop live bait down to them or use a 1 oz spoon on them.

The top water bite has down this weeks compare to last weeks. But should pick back up with the cooler weather we are expecting this weekend. Look for these fish on top early morning and late afternoon. Most of the top-water action we have seen this week has been in eye site of the dam.

GEORGIA: Allatoona – Use Rooster Tails, a Fluke Jr. or a Zara Puppy to Catch Fish

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Line side fishing is Better and getting better as the water temp drops…..

Plan your trip around either sun up or sun down. If you’re planning on a four or five hour trip you are going to spend a lot of time just watching your fish finder. There is a decent top water bite lasting about 30 minutes at sun up and then again at sun down.

Find the fish schooling on top from Kellogg’s Creek up to Bethany Bridge and use something small to catch them like the Rooster Tail, a Fluke Jr. or a Zara Puppy. After the top water bite shuts down you may be able to catch a few down lining to 24 feet over fish you see on your graph but the fish are very finicky. These fish are nibbling the baits but very few will actually take it.

Dissolved oxygen levels are very low in the lake right now. They are not pulling much water through the dam because the lake is already low. Something needs to change before the fish will start biting again like some kind of a cold front or a tropical storm to get the water moving. On into September we can expect the fishing to improve dramatically. Soon the top water bite will keep getting better.

September is always a good month for top water fish on Allatoona.

The other good bite that should turn on this month is trolling umbrella rigs.

GEORGIA: Trout and Reds are About To Fire Off

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Finally, finally there is a trolling bite offshore!

The Kingfish took a leave of absence early in the season and finally decided to get back to work.

Usually the deep sea fishing in GA provides a nice mix of bottom fishing and trolling opportunity but until the last week or so, the bottom fishing has had to hold down the fort on its own.

Luckily the best fishing of the year is right around the corner with some great Trout and Redfishing as well as some awesome offshore fishing.

We’ve seen a steady supply of Trout and Redfish and one of the best years for Flounder that I have ever seen. I can’t wait to see what the Fall has in store for us.

We’re still catching Sharks by the dozens and the Tarpon are here but we’re having to work for the bait. It’s no big deal because when you do find the bait, you also find the fish. It’s worth the extra effort.

There have also been some Sailfish somewhat close to land. The Golden Isles Kingfish Tournament had several hook ups on the Sails.

St. Simons Island Fishing Forecast

Get ready for a Redfish rendezvous! The Trout and Reds are about to fire off. Late September to early December is the time to be here for Trout, Redfish, and Bull Redfish.
