NEW YORK: Orleans County – Inland Waters Bass Fishing Seems to be Hot

Monday, August 6th, 2012

Fishing on Lake Ontario off the shores of Orleans County has never been better.

Average sizes of Chinook salmon, Brown trout and Steelhead/Rainbow trout are above average for this time of year with most fishermen enjoying their daily catch limit.

The rain of last week has helped settle things down into more normal summer conditions.

There are fish scattered from 100 feet of water all the way out to past the 33 line.

The bigger Kings seem to be from the 31 to 33 line with good mixed bags of fish from the 31 line on in. Riggers from 60 to 80 feet down and dipsys 180 to 220 feet back seem to be having the most action.  Some of the patterns mentioned are Gators, Glo purples, Purple clowns, 42 second gold and Ghosts.

On the inland waters of Orleans County Bass fishing seems to be hot on all of the waters.

On Lake Alice Bluegills are being taken in very good size and numbers from the Waterport Bridge.

Glenwood Lake is producing good numbers and sizes of Catfish along with Carp, Bass and Rock bass.

Back on Lake Ontario, the near shore weed beds seem to be overrun with Gobies at the present so Perch and Bass fishing is slow.

Finally don’t forget that the Orleans County Rotary Club Derby starts this Saturday August 4th and runs through Sunday August 19th.

Let’s make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.

LOUISIANA: Bass Fishing – Capital City Bass Team Trail on Bayou Segnette

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Westwego, LA

It was a great day to go fishing for the first time this season for the Capital City Bass Team Trail on Bayou Segnette.

Not having to buddle up at the take off was a good change of pace. Troy David and Ryan Bergeron took first place with a five bass limit weighing 13lbs. even. They also took the big bass prize home aswell, now taking the award in every tournament (3) this year. The Duel on the Delta was Troy and Ryan’s first win of the season. They now have placed in the money in every tournament so far, being the first team to reach the $1000 mark with $1,100 in total earnings this year. Randy Brown and Andrew Wilson came in second, now finishing there twice this year with five bass going 10lbs. 7ozs. The last team in the money coming in third was Chris Seals and Raymond Starns with another limit weighing 9lbs. 2ozs. We had four limits brought in, and for the first time there were no blanks in the field.

The Anglers of the Year race is really close at the top with only two points between first and second. The win on Segnette along with the big bass bonus gave David and Bergeron (877 points) just enough to get by Wilson and Brown(875 points) for the top spot. Blaine and Jesse Brooks are in third (33 points back), coming in fourth Jacob Pourciau and Blake Caruso (49 points back), and rounding out the top five are Charles Anzelmo and Ronnie Myers (64 points back).

Thanks to all the anglers for showing up Saturday.

Hope to see everyone at the next tournament on Bayou Black, Sunday, April 10th.

N CAROLINA: Bass Fishing – Great day on Tillery

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Had a great day on Lake Tillery even though the wind got rough and it was hard to hold boat along bank.

Total of 18 lbs btwn 5 fish.

Both of these fish came off of same bank with in 10 mins of each other. Water is stained/dingy color which is very uncommon for this lake. Fish havent moved back to far yet and can be found pretty easy with common baits.

FLORIDA: Central Florida Bass Fishing

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

The last few days has seen some really good action out on Lake Jackson. The lily pad fields have really thinned out in a big way since the state sprayed them and this has opened up a few more areas for us to bass fish. Hydrilla is still very healthy out here and so are the bass.

Live wild shiners has of course been a great option for keeping the bass fishing action steady and the guys have been landing some trophy bass as well. Wild shiners have been working best free lined and tossed right to the edges of the lily pads. This is a pattern that has been holding steady now for over a month, and has made many clients very happy.

Tom came back once again, along with good friend Frank and they had a blast out here. Between the two of them they boated right about 20 bass in six hours, along with 2 nice catfish and a huge bowfin. The bass the guys were catching were running from school sized bass to the big gal which was just over 7 pounds. Mix in three bass at an easy five pound a pop, that makes for one great day of Bass Fishing in Florida!

FLORIDA: Central Florida Bass Fishing

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Bass Fishing in Florida is still a hook setting bonanza. Sid returned once again for some great bass fishing action out on Lake Jackson here in Central Florida. We started the day out hitting the ramp very early so we were on our first spot just before 7am. Cooler temperatures than the day before and a fog that did not let go of us until just after 10am, looked like it was going to be a tougher day than we had been used to.

We started out on that first spot, which had been great at producing not only some good numbers of bass, but also some pretty good sized bass as well. Today was a day of all wild shiners and the bass did not let us down.

Tossing free lined shiners to the edges of the lily pads was the way to go, one thing we did notice was the placement of the shiners today was the big key to catching the bass. Placing the bait a couple feet from the pad yielded little to no action at all, but if they were placed within inches of the pads, the bass played very good for us.

With the wind constantly changing directions on us, the Dig In Anchor system was awesome at holding us in place and allowed us to pin point our casts to the edges with no problem. This was a great bass fishing day for Sid, as he boated not only 21 bass in four hours, but also landed three catfish a pickerel and a big bowfin. Lot of action for Sid today and I got a pretty good work out myself zipping around the boat netting all of his fish today.

ALABAMA: Bass Fishing is Great & the Fish are Going Wild

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

Bass fishing is great and the fish are going wild chasing and feeding up on Shad before winter sets in.

Look for shad in shallow flats,  on secondary points and the mouth of any shallow cove or pocket.

In the upper Coosa river, starting at Three Mile creek all the way to Mayo’s Lock and Dam, the Bass are busting shad on top of the water in the mouth of any cove or pocket and any shallow flat near the main river channel. These active feeding fish can be caught on a variety of Shad imitation lure’s, very shallow shallow running crank baits, Rat L Traps, spinner baits, smaller 3-4 inch swim baits are catching these very aggressive fish, Carolina and Texas rigged plastics are also catching fish, the bass are hitting top water baits also.

Little River is also producing some great Spot fishing in the upper part on the old river ledges and the steep rock banks, a drop shot rig with a 4 inch worm or a small craw is working great.

Crappie fishing is fair  Crappie are being caught on structure on the drop off’s of the old Coosa River and Little River channel ledges in 12-14 feet of water, Spider rigging with live minnows and Jiffy Jigs is the way to catch these fall Crappie, Look for structure on the edges of the old channel with schools of fish suspended around or above the structure, fish your baits very slowly at or near the depth you are marking the schools of fish. A few Crappie are still being caught shooting docks with a 1/24th ounce Jiffy Jig in color JJ13 and JJ17 is also producing some good Crappie. Docks with at least 6-10 feet of water or more seem to be the most productive right now, with this low water level you have to move around a lot and hunt for the deeper docks, look for bigger well shaded docks, although the smaller docks can sometimes be very productive. The Crappie will not stay under the docks much longer.

Striper fishing is Fair and they are starting to move back to the main lake on the old river ledges and main lake flats, trolling 1/4 ounce jigs with a 3 or 4 inch Sassy Shad at 1 to 1.5 mph will be productive all winter.

Catfish are biting good and they are being caught in the flats and coves in 10-20 feet of water on cut shad.

FLORIDA: Okeechobee Bass Fishing on Fire!

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee is red hot! Huge numbers of Bass are being caught by anglers daily. Bass over 8 pounds are being reported daily. For huge numbers of bass use artificial baits, skinny dippers, flukes, top water baits, horny toad and spinner baits are all accounting for great bass action along the outside grass lines.

The larger bass are falling prey to a big wild shiner. My customers have caught numerous big Bass in the last few weeks alone. The big fish have moved shallow to feed before spawning and some of them are full of roe already, meaning we will have some bass spawning in November around the moon phases. If you have never been to Lake Okeechobee before you are missing one of the truly best bites ever, come see for yourself!

FLORIDA: July bass fishing in Orlando

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

With water temperatures hovering around 90 degrees fishing has slowed down some. You need to fish very early in the morning or at night to catch the bigger fish.

Each day seems to be a different approach. One day they will hit shiners and the next day they won’t hardly touch them. Find running water when we get a good shower the night before the water seems to cool down a couple degrees and the bite will be strong the next morning. On artificial top water such as flukes and zara spooks in the early morning for about an hour the move into cover such as lily pads and hydrilla. Fish worms and sinkos in watermelon and gord green slow and deliberate to get bit.

Lake Toho and Lake Kissimmee are the best on the chain because of the water levels in the middle part of the chain are low.

Great Fishing!
