GEORGIA: Seeing Some Great Top Water at Times

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

The fishing on Lake Lanier has been very good overall, since my last report.

Our boats have done well on freelined bluebacks out over the channel and on points and humps. We are seeing some great top water at times and a Spro Mc Stick and a freelined blueback are working well on these surfacing fish. We’ve also caught a few on top using a Redfin and a Spook. Mid-lake and south have been best on my boat. There are some nice stripers in the very backs of creeks, but we’ve mostly been further on out on the main lake. We’ve also been catching and releasing some super magnum spots that are out swimming with the stripers. Check out our Twitter page to see a 7 pound spot that we weighed and released. The crappie fishing has also been very good. Our crappie guide has been doing well on minnows and jigs around brush. We will be open for morning and afternoon trips daily during spring great.

The fishing has been very good and it’s a great time of the year to bring a kid or elderly person out for some warm weather fun.

GEORGIA: Lake Allatoona – Flex-It in Chartreuse Will Get Gobbled

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Very good.

Fishing this week is the same as last weeks maybe a little better, change nothing…. The fish are biting well, and we have been catching 15- to 30-fish on most trips, when at this time last year big shad kills had almost shut down the fishing.

The north end of the lake has been so muddy that it hasn’t been worth fishing.

Likewise, the south end — from Bethany Bridge to Tanyard — hasn’t been worth fishing either, mid-lake, from Duck Hole down to the dam is where most of the fish are. There are a few fish being caught from Duck Hole to Harbortown, but the highest concentrations of fish are from Galts Ferry to Clear Creek, and there are huge schools of fish and tons of boats in the 1/2-mile stretch at Bartow Carver.

The last two weeks has almost been like a late-summer bite, in that downlines are the deal. The fish are anywhere from 25 to 50 feet deep, I suggested starting the morning with downlines at about 32 feet and then adjusting as you figure out where the fish are. Medium shiners and shad are working equally well as bait, with trout running a close third. Spoons are also a good option if the fish appear to be sitting near the bottom. A 1/4- to 1/2-oz. Flex-It in chartreuse will get gobbled as quickly as a live bait if the fish are on the bottom. An umbrella rig will also catch a few fish, but they won’t hit it in muddy water.

Find the cleanest water available where you’re still marking fish before you pull a U-rig. His success with the U-rig has also come mid-lake.

GEORGIA: Lake Allatoona – Remember to Down Size Hooks to Match Shiners for More Strikes

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Line-Sides is Good.

I didn’t fish as much as I would have like this week due to the weather but the few times I was on the water fishing was good. The bait is starting to move back into the Creek and so are the Striper and Hybrids.

Mid lake seems to be holding better numbers of fish then the southend and the northend but I think all the creeks on the lake will produce line-sides right now. Shiners fished on free-lines and planner boards are producing better then trout and shad right now. Remember to down size your hooks to match your shiners for more strikes.

After the sun comes up switch to pulling umbrella Rigs. I have had my best luck this week pulling my rigs 145 feet behind the boat at 3.1 to 3.4 miles and hour. And have caught fish weighting up to 21 lbs.

As the lake starts to clears the umbrella rig bite will get great.

GEORGIA: Lake Lanier – Leadhead Flukes and Bucktail Jigs are Working

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Since my last report the striper fishing on Lake Lanier hasn’t changed much.

The fish are still surfacing most mornings before the passing of a cold front and you can catch stripers on freelined and planerboard trout, and bluebacks. Leadhead flukes and bucktail jigs are also working on these rolling fish. We have also done well trolling Capt. Mack’s 3 arm u-rigs thru the diving birds and rolling fish.

There has also been a decent spoon bite. There are groups of stripers scattered both north and south, also in the popular mid-lake creeks. We are catching fish around diving seagulls with and without loons. Downlined trout are producing best when the fish are down 30 to 80 feet deep. Overall, the striper fishing remains about the same. It’s been good most days, but with these passing wintertime cold fronts, the stripers might be up on the bank rolling one day and 80 feet deep on a downline the next.

Good Fishing and We Appreciate Your Business.

GEORGIA: Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook Ready

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Linesides: Good, The rain we had ealier this week as really stain the northend of the lake. This really didn’t hurt me because I wasn’t spending much time north of the S-Turns any way. There are fish in the S-Turns but mostly white bass. The Umbrella rig bite is starting to be the best over all bite on the lake.

Free-lines and planner boards are working early in the morning and then again right before dust. But end between sun up and sun down the umbrella bite is king.. “There is a down-rods bite buy nothing like the umbrella bite.. We caught most of our fish again this week on our U-rigs then live bait, and that is about norm for most of the winter. I am targeting the flats from the S-turns all the way up to Clear Creek. I’m not even looking in the Allatoona arm right now. There’s a ton of fish moving up on flats and points to feed on small threadfin right now. Catch them on jigging spoons or Rooster Tails if you can get them deep enough. Fish 10 to 12 feet deep. The flats off Gaults have been good, as well as the island at Harbor Town and Bartow-Carver.

Seagulls are starting to show up. I expect in December the fishing will be full blown.

Key on birds and topwater. Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook ready.

Pull flatlines and planer boards, and later in the mornings pull a lighter three-arm U-rig.

GEORGIA: December – Keep a Super Fluke, Sammy or Zara Spook ready

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Linesides: Good, not great, but should get better when the weather stabilizes.

The flatline and planer-board bite is starting to pick up but is over with by 9:30 am. “Then it’s downrods and four-arm U-rigs. We caught more fish this week on our U-rigs then live bait, and that’s the best bite right now.

I am targeting the flats from Victoria all the way up to Clear Creek.

I’m not even looking in the Allatoona arm right now. There’s a ton of fish moving up on flats and points to feed on small threadfin right now. Catch them on jigging spoons or Rooster Tails if you can get them deep enough. Fish 10 to 12 feet deep.

GEORGIA: Trout Biting Well on the Top of the Tides & Reds at the Low

Monday, November 14th, 2011

As expected, the fall fishing has been outstanding!

Cold mornings with midday temps in the 70′s have really fired off the big three: Flounder, Trout and Redfish.

The fish have not been picky, with shrimp and plastics fishing equally well. We have even had some great days with the fly rod using Deceivers and Clousers. The slight drop in water temperature has killed off many micro-organisms, leaving the water clean and green!

With trout biting well on the top of the tides, reds at the low and flounder on all stages in between, limits have been the norm.

The Georgia Coast offers arguably the best fall fishing in the south. Our amazing State Park system and many state of the art ramps and lifts, help make access to these pristine marshes readily available. Come and fish our coast, and be sure to bring your camera, as these marshes are pristine and undeveloped due to some excellent management over the last century.

The only over population problem we have are the fish!

GEORGIA: Allatoona – Best Bite has Been on Jigging Spoons

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Great.

The bite this week is the same as last week’s but seems to be better for size and numbers.

The lake is in the process of turning over and all the action is on the north end of the lake right now.

We have been catching most of our fish on the bottom ” 8- to 20 “-feet deep on the flats from Little River to Fields Landing, the fish will gradually start moving back downlake. The fish are relating to the bottom.

The best bite has been on jigging spoons dropped to the bottom and then twitched up about 6 inches.

The bite will come as the spoon falls. I like a 3/4- or 1-oz. Flex-It in chrome with either white or chartreuse. Spoons are catching a mixed bag of hybrids, stripers and white bass, and we are even catching a few big catfish in the same area. It’s not uncommon to boat 30 or 40 fish. The fish will also hit live bait, and the gizzards and threadfins are easy to catch in Little River.

You just have to get there before sun-up. Linesides are hitting shad both on downlined and freelines. With the down rods being the better bite….

GEORGIA: Fishing Starting to Pick Up on Oconee

Monday, October 31st, 2011

I know it sounds like I think I am The Rock from WWF, but it is very exciting to see the fishing start to pick up on Oconee. Since it is such a shallow lake, the water heats up and stays warm for a long time. It takes many cool, even cold days, for the lake to get right again.

It all starts off with crappie fishing, and right now the fishing is getting really good on the lake. Night fishing guys are catching a lot of good fish, and the day trollers arent doing bad either. Every day we get closer to that magic time when the rods will be bending under the boat with 2 1/2 pound fish.

This is going to be a great year on Oconee
