OKLAHOMA: Most Fish Being Caught in Deep Water – 50 Feet Plus

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

The cold winter killed most of our threadfin shad.

As a result, most of the guides have been using shiners. The shiners have been working well with the absence of the threadfins. Most of the fish are being caught in deep water, 50 feet plus. Fish size has been up and down, with lots of smaller fish. The fish are starting to run, so, look for down-riggers and slabs to start producing in the next couple of weeks.

Target Species: Stripers

OKLAHOMA: Grand Lake Fishing

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Hello Grand Lakers!

We are entering the last month of the year, Thanksgiving is just past us and my wife Trudy and I have something to be thankful for. Our new grandsons, Jett and Jagger, were born this week. (I was needing a couple more fishing partners.)

I have been hearing some favorable reports about the crappie still biting well on Grand, especially in private boat docks.

I’ve been fishing with my regular Grand Lake customers on Lake Fork, in Texas, over the past 3 weeks. We’ve been catching many crappie, with a lot of the fish weighing over two pounds. I do these trips every year and we really have a good time.

The blacks should be biting on Grand but I haven’t really heard many reports. A jig should be a good bait choice.

I hear the whites are still biting on the banks some but with the colder water temps I would think this bite will be slowing down.

Jerry Kropff said he was catching quite a few good catfish up shallow. I would try shallow flats, especially when you have a warm day with the wind out of the south.

See you on the water
