MONTANA: Upper Madison River (Red Hot) – Attractor Nymphs Often Produce

The entire upper river below Hebgen is fishing really, really well.

The aquatic hatches are basically finished and the trout are more opportunistic which is often a good thing. It is still nice to toss a big nymph up top like a stonefly or streamer trailed by smaller techy nymphs like 3 dollar dips, caddis pupae and small baetis emergers.

In the afternoon flashy but small attractor nymphs often produce. The dry fly fishing has been hit or miss but hoppers and ants are starting to get some eats.

As water temps have dropped the good fishing is now extending well into the afternoon. This should be good all the way into November!
