MONTANA: Yellowstone River – Nymph Fishing Has Been Spectacular

The Yellowstone has finally dropped to good fishing levels and is in great shape. The nymph fishing has been spectacular with lots of fish and some great size.

The dry fly bite is now officially on and trout are eating attractors, nocturnal golden stones and hoppers.

The river is in amazing shape and many guides have commented this is the best fishing on the Yellowstone that anyone can remember. The flows are only going to get better and the phenomenal fishing will last well into the fall months. With the healthy flows the hopper banks are plentiful and fish have finally started looking for the big terrestrials. The best hopper fishing is yet to come. With hopper fishing arriving so late this year, the trout will not be nearly as educated on the big foam flies as they normally are going into September.

Guide traffic always drops off at the end of August as school starts back up and the number of boats on the water wll diminish fast just when the best terrestrial fishing of the year hits.

If you ever wanted to sample fall fishing in Montana this is the year to do it!!!
