CALIFORNIA: Rockfishing Outside the Gate has Been The Attraction

John Akina of Oyster Point Bait, Tackle, and Deli in South San Francisco said action was slow on Sunday, but there were at least a dozen halibut and stripers apiece brought to the shop on both Friday and Saturday. The best action has been near the Green Building in Brisbane, but boaters are spread out all over the bay. Rockfishing outside the Gate has been an attraction for area fishermen.

Joel Sinkay of Leonard’s Bait in Port Sonoma has been able to keep grass shrimp in the live bait tanks, and he said there have been a number of large green sturgeon caught in San Pablo Bay in the past week. Anglers need to be aware of the difference between the legal white sturgeon and the endangered green sturgeon. Sinkay has been catching and releasing stripers to 5-pounds from the bait shop docks on a single grass shrimp.
