MISSISSIPPI: Light Tackle & Big Fish In Shallow Water…Game On!

As of late, well, TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS has been taking clients, both conventional and fly fishermen to clear shallows where hundreds upon hundreds of huge black drum have been gathering.

It’s an amazing sight, and pure heaven for a light tackle angler in pursuit of big fish. Best of all we’re fishing in 1 to 2-feer of water, and in the last 4 or 5 trips there hasn’t been another boat in sight.

Bottom line, the big powerful fish are there for the taking, and by using the trolling motor mounted on the front of the 2170 Blazer Bay, well, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

These are massive schools of drum swarming the shallows side by side, dark clouds of fish slowly moving about the shallows, and my clients catch them until their arms ache.

Matter a fact, Professor at Brigham Young University, Ramon B. Zabriskie landed 10 of those big fish on his fly rod, and that was on a half-a-day trip.

And then on the last trip the Owens brothers, Ed, Brian, and Sam caught them consistently on light spinning tackle until their arms muscles burned, and we were back at the dock well before noon.

As I write this the weather has turned really cold, and we’ll have to fish when the temps and winds settle a bit. Haven’t fished the white trout havens near the islands lately, but hope to try them when the weather permits.

Oh yeah, we’ve been killing a few ducks too, and have a few more guided trips coming up soon.

Life is good here in south Mississippi, and our second granddaughter is due near the end of January, we are extremely excited about that, and so is her big sister Olivia.

Remember, TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS is a full-time year-round guide service, and there is always something to bend a rod anytime in these Deep South waters.
